Work with me

Like most professional freelancers, I tend to wear a variety of hats. Below is a list of my skills, interests, and services:

Translation. I specialize in Italian-to-English translation of cookbooks, recipes, and other food- and culture-related texts, including web content, brochures and promotional materials, and magazine articles. I periodically work with Guido Tommasi Editore, a Milan-based cookbook publisher, most recently on the translation of From the Markets of Tuscany: A Cookbook by Giulia Scarpaleggia.  

Editing and proofreading. My professional experience includes work in traditional book publishing as a full-time proofreader for three years, and editing and proofreading for local English-language newspapers. 

Articles. I write for online publications such as Great Italian Chefs and Italy Magazine as well as the English news magazine The Florentine.

Research. Areas of special interest to me include Italian feast days, forgotten foodways and revived traditions, and the food-related customs and lore surrounding Midsummer, or la festa di San Giovanni in Italian. In 2016 I delivered a paper titled La Notte di Giovanni: Midsummer Food & Drink Rituals in Italy at the Folklore Society Conference ‘Food and Drink in Legend and Tradition.’
